We firmly believe that our success in achieving sustainable development depends critically on our success in ensuring the health and safety of our staff and everyone involved in or affected by our operations, in ensuring the security of our assets and information, in minimising the negative effects of our activities on the environment and natural resource and in being a responsible member of the communities where we operate and a positive contributor to the achievement of their social and economic aspirations

TOPIC will comply with applicable laws, regulations, and, where reasonably practicable, relevant international standards and industry best working practices to achieve set goals: Zero Accidents, Zero Harm to People, Zero damage to Assets, Zero damage to Environment, responsible use of natural resources and positive contributions to the aspirations of the communities where we operate.

 

TOPIC is firmly committed to

  • Maintain a Safe and Secure working environment
  • Continually improve our HSS&ESR Management System by ensuring it is dynamic and responsive to our sustainability vision
  • Assess the HSS&ESR risks associated with all our activities and reduce their levels to as low as reasonably practicable
  • Ensure that management decisions are reflective of our HSS&ESR goals and principles
  • Establish a company culture that values our principles and drives our HSS&ESR performance
  • Establish measurable objectives and targets to ensure continual improvement of our HSS&ESR performance
  • Identify our stakeholders and strive to continually improve their satisfaction and minimise any negative effects on them from our operations
  • Provide training, coaching and supervision to ensure the necessary levels of competency of our staff and require our contractors to do the same
  • Provide sufficient resources, to achieve our HSS&ESR goals

To achieve our goals, at TOPIC, we will be uncompromising in the implementation, where relevant, of the HSS&ESR Management System with ourselves, our contractors/ suppliers, our partners and our other stakeholders

Health

Employee well-being and physical and mental health are fundamental to a successful company as they directly affect the performance of the company’s core asset, human capital. In order to ensure the health of all employees at a high level, we have established health standards common to the company. This includes prevention initiatives such as targeted health promotion campaigns, systematic assessment of health risk reduction, and awareness sessions.

Safety

TOPIC strives to maintain the highest standards to provide a safe workplace for our employees and contractors. Our safety management system is based on TOPIC HSS&ESR Policy, HSS&ESR Risk Management, Contractors Management, Hazardous Substances Management, Regular Inspections and Audits, Incident Reporting, Investigation and Classification.

Security

The main role of TOPIC security system is to protect the people, assets, information, operations, ​​and reputation of the Company from any threats.

Environment

TOPIC takes responsibility for the environmental impact of our activities and is committed to using all necessary resources to protect the environment. Furthermore, violations of environmental regulations at national and international levels lead to both economic losses and reputational damage.

In order to comply with these regulations, very strict rules are applied to all our operations, with a focus on issues that are important to both TOPIC and our stakeholders including government agencies, shareholders, public and environmental NGOs and NPOs. The main environmental topics managed are spills, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, produced water and waste management.

 

Dealing with oil spills

Oil spills are a significant environmental issue for our industry. Spill management is defined as the prevention of operational and other spills (caused by acts of sabotage or natural disasters), and the control and cleanup of accidental spills.

Adequate procedures are put in place to prevent and respond to spills including hazard identification and risk management, preventive maintenance, emergency response and contingency plans. Spill response materials and equipment are ready to use in case of a loss of containment incident.

For an enhanced emergency response readiness and to reduce the impact of oil spills, regular emergency drills including spill scenarios are conducted.

TOPIC is also a member of the MOIG(Mediterranean Oil Industry Group), a voluntary non-profit making association of petroleum enterprises formed to promote continual improvement of oil spill response capabilities of the Mediterranean through mutual regional cooperation.

Waste management

Our operations generate solid and liquid waste, including hazardous waste such as oil sludge and chemical waste. TOPIC put in place a waste management system to minimize the impact of the generated waste on the environment in accordance with the national and international regulations.
